Multiples and More Question of the Week...

Multiples and More QOTW
If you could go back in time (think: Marty McFly) and have a chat with your pregnant self, what would you say?
For this week's question of the week, write a letter to yourself- your newly expecting, have-no-clue-what-you-were-in-for self.

Dear self,

Slow down, slow down, slow down. The lumber trucks are not going to stop if you're not there to invoice. The kids aren't going to starve if you lay down for a nap before dinner... Growing 3 babies is not easy, and you're not Superwoman.

The next few months of life is going to be a whirlwind of the most extreme highs and extreme lows of your lifetime. Most of all, cherish every moment of this pregnancy, it will be SHORT. Write down what it feels like to have 3 babies playing soccer in your belly. Get video of the babies moving, at least once; you will never be able to explain what it really looked like!

Spend more time learning about preemies and what they deal with in the NICU; you're going to need this knowledge even more than you think. And research what your doctors tell you, nobody is perfect and knowledge is power. Call your doctor or nurse if you have a concern, they're not going to think you're crazy!

Journal now. Start a journaling plan for when the babies arrive... the first year will be a blur, literaly. figure out now how you can write something down daily or at least weekly.

When the babies are born, take a picture of each one EVERY DAY in the NICU. You will cherish this more than you'll ever know...

Do not share the babies' names with anyone before they are born, there will always be at least one person hassleing you and Eric about your choices. Until they are born, there is no harm in calling them Baby A, B, and C.

And most of all: when you reach teh 23rd week and see that ultrasound of Baby A doing that dance on his cord ON your cervix: Take it even more seriously than your doctors!! This kid is trying to tell you something, and it won't be long now before you meet him face to face... take every precaution, even those that seem insignificant or overdone, to keep those babe's cooking as long as possible!!

With love,
your post-pregnancy self
(hindsight is 20/20)

My biggest wish of all time is a do-over of the last month of my pregnancy. From the beginning, finding out there were three babies growing inside me was such a huge blessing to me. I wasn't scared, I was confident, it was like God had handed me the greatest gift ever. I thought surely I could handle it with Grace. Had I known exactly how serious the babies' situation was, even so much more serious than the doctors thought, I would have taken many more precautions... and carrying three babies is way different, WAY harder than carrying a born-past-the-due-date-large-baby (Matt). We were overly confident, and thank God Levi and Vivian have done as well as they have!!

7 weeks, aware there are three in there, but blissfully unaware of the future: comfortably pregnant.

Early on the day  they were born... No-one, not even the docs had any thought that the babies would arrive that night... way too early.

Erika, I like this post very much. As you well know, being pregnant with multiples is very different. Thanks for sharing your insights.

Thanks, Lin. I'm glad you enjoyed it, if my words touch people and help even just one, then they are serving their purpose!
